Julian House were asked to be part of the University of Bath’s ‘Big Team Challenge’ , in which their MBA students – who already have extensive business and professional backgrounds, careers and experience – use their skills to help the charity solve their business challenges.
Around 50 new MBA students took part in the challenge, an exercise that introduced them to the importance of working effectively as a group and to get them to create potential new business and fundraising ideas for Julian House. Students were presented with the issues currently faced by Julian House, followed by the opportunity to act as consultants and provide real-world recommendations that will be of value to the organisation.
This year’s task for students was to challenge them to think big and impress us with brand-new fundraising suggestions to raise £25,000 for Julian House.
When split into groups, students collaborated on devising strategies and operational plans for fundraising events, which included: food festivals, hosting star-studded auctions, and rugby matches.
Gavin Osborn, Senior Community and Events Fundraiser for Julian House said, “I was thrilled to be invited to take part in this year’s MBA Challenge and to set an exercise for the students to tackle. We are facing the perfect storm this year at many of our projects, with the cost-of-living crisis in the UK dramatically increasing costs. It was great to meet them and hear their fresh, innovative ideas”.
