Bath businesses battle it out to be crowned the Brain of Bath

Last Thursday, Bath Businesses turned out to support Julian House’s annual fundraising quiz event the Brain of Bath.

This year 23 companies put their mental mettle to the test at Bath’s historic Assembly Rooms to see who would be crowned with the prestigious title.

With the popular and challenging ‘smells’ round making its triumphant return following the pandemic other rounds included music lyrics, spelling, geography, 20th Century History.

After 120 questions the winners were announced as long-time Julian House supporters St James Wine Vaults. They romped home with a score twenty points higher than the team in second place! They were followed by Stone King in second place and Deloitte in third.

Event organizer Matthew Redmore said:

“It was fantastic to see so many Bath organisations supporting the event again. The Brain of Bath is always a popular fixture in the Julian House calendar. It was fantastic evening and we have raised a brilliant amount of money which will go directly to supporting the people we help.

We would like to thank our fantastic headline sponsor Battens Solicitors for their support, alongside caterer Searcy for the wonderful food, GA Solicitors for being round sponsors, Wiltshire Digital Drive for scoring the event and all the volunteers who helped to make the Brain of Bath such a success. The final amount raised from the event is likely to be around £16,000.”

The inaugural Brain of Bath quiz night in 1999 was the brainchild of a small group of Bath businessmen. They were concerned about the problem of homelessness. It had three main objectives: to raise funds for Bath’s main local homeless charity (Julian House), raise awareness of the difficult social issues surrounding homelessness and provide support for a dedicated research project at the University of Bath. Originally the event took place in the main sports hall at the University of Bath and teams competed for the title of Brain of Bath and the impressive Waterford Crystal trophy. Since then, the venue has changed to the elegant surroundings of the Assembly Rooms.
