After spending lockdown in Singapore, unable to see his friends or family in over 18 months, businessman Adam Proctor has returned to the UK with a mission.
Whilst waiting to start a new job in the UK, instead of enjoying the break, Adam has set himself the gruelling challenge of cycling 874 miles from Land’s End to John O’Groats starting 10th June to raise vital funds and awareness for Julian House.
Of the challenge, Adam said: “I wanted to use some of this time to undertake the challenge [with my brother] and to raise money for a very worthwhile cause. I have recently moved to Bath and I was really impressed with the work that the charity does across the South West. I wanted to be able to help and in a small way hope the funds raised will be able to support the charity’s good works.
While Adam is a “fairly keen cyclist” as he says “this was most recently around Singapore which is very flat compared to Bath!” The challenge before him is great, however training is going well with the brothers clocking up around 200km per week and the longest single ride so far being around 90km.”
With a completion target of two weeks, the duo hope to finish by the 24th June. Adam added: “I’m really looking forward to seeing much more of the UK and also pushing myself to the limits. I’m also really looking forward to spending quality time with my brother.”
“I am hoping to raise £4,000. So far I have raised just over £2,000. I am fortunate to have a good network of friends, former colleagues and clients who have been kindly donating.”
Jessica Gay, Senior Community and Events Fundraiser at Julian House said, “It’s inspiring to see Adam using his break to push his limits and take on such an epic, tough challenge. Lockdown has been tough for everyone, not least those that we support. So, a huge thank you to Adam and his brother for going above and beyond. Everything raised will go toward helping us support people away from the streets and back to rebuilding their lives. This challenge will be one that Adam remembers for life and will certainly have a life changing effect for many of those in our services. Thank you so much and good luck!”
