The last 12 months have been tough for everyone. However, despite all the challenges that have presented, Julian House has worked hard to maintain the majority of its services. In Devon this has included our Assertive Homeless Outreach Team, our Trainer Tenancies for young people in Exeter, the Bay 6 Hospital discharge service and a variety of other Supported Housing.
The one service which we did have to suspend was Nightstop Devon. This was because of difficulties in satisfying COVID-19 lockdown restrictions and the vulnerability of some of our host families.
Now that things seem to be improving and we look to try and get all our projects and services back on an even footing again, Nightsop was foremost on our mind.
Regretfully we have come to the difficult decision not to re-start Nightstop Devon. The main reason for this the lack of funding for the project. Another key influence is the fact that other agencies and providers operate in the area, with the capacity to support the clients, previously accessing Nightstop.
We are pleased to be able to continue supporting 8 young people in our Trainer Tenancies, thanks to our partnership with Cornerstone Housing and funding from Central Government. Exeter City Council and YMCA Exeter have also recently announced that 21 single person flats are to be built in the coming year, specifically for young people. We are assured that housing options for young people are still a priority and that young people will have opportunities to alleviate their homelessness.
